Kwibohora25 activities kick off with liberation tourism trail

Mulindi, 01 July 2019 – Hundreds of Rwandans, mostly the youth,  from different corners of the country have joined a Liberation tourism trail that connects the main points along the advancement of Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) during the Liberation struggle that brought an end to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Held as part of Kwibohora25 activities, under the patronage of Rwanda Development Board (RDB), the four-day-long trail started on Monday from Gicumbi District at National Liberation Park Museum Known as “Umurindi w’Intwari” to Kigali, with the participants taking the same painful journey made by starving young RPA patriots during the struggle to liberate the country.

Located in Northern Province, 80 kilometres northeast of Kigali, the museum tells the story of the Rwandan Liberation struggle that brought an end to the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

Known as Kwibohora, Liberation Day is held every year on 4 July, marking the day the Rwandan Patriotic Army ended the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Held under the theme “Together We Prosper,” this year’s celebration is an opportunity to recommit to Rwanda’s vision for a peaceful, united, prosperous and self-reliant nation.

A series of activities leading up to Kwibohora25 celebrations have been taking place across the country including a number of socio-economic development projects, led by the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) in partnership with local government institutions. Part of these projects includes the construction of the Karama Integrated model village, located in Kigali Sector, Nyarugenge District that will be inaugurated on the eve of the Kwibohora25 celebrations. The village will host 240 families relocated from high-risk zones.
